Sumida Park

Sumida Park

Sumida Park is one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo, and was created by Yoshimune Tokugawa, the 8th shogun of the Edo period, and is selected as one of the "100 best cherry blossom viewing spots".

From Asakusa Station, a tree-lined avenue of 1,000 cherry trees stretches approximately 1 km along both banks of the Sumida River. The spectacle of cherry blossoms peeking out from both banks of the river is breathtaking, and a boat ride is like stepping through a tunnel of cherry blossoms. The collaboration of the Tokyo Skytree towering over the Sumida-ku side of the river and the rows of cherry trees is another attraction not to be missed.

At night, the cherry blossoms in the park are lit up, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The Sakura Bridge adjacent to the park is also illuminated in pale pink, making the nighttime cherry blossom viewing experience even more romantic. In addition, the "Sumizutsumi Sakura Festival" is held during the cherry blossom season, providing an even more spectacular time to enjoy the cherry blossoms.

Odaiba Park

Odaiba Park

Daiba Park was established on the site of gun emplacements (daiba) built by the Edo shogunate to defend Tokyo Bay in preparation for the arrival of Perry in 1853. Of the six platforms built, the current Third and Sixth platforms are designated as National Historic Sites. Today, the Third Daiba is maintained as a park, while the Sixth Daiba is preserved at sea as a valuable historical site.

In addition to someiyoshino cherry trees, about 30 cherry trees including oshima-zakura and sato-zakura are in full bloom in Daiba Park. Although there are not many cherry trees, the park is a popular spot for many people to view the cherry blossoms against the backdrop of historical sites and the Rainbow Bridge.

Koyo Elementary School, Koyo Junior High School

The area around Koyo Elementary School and Junior High School, located between Daiba Park and Odaiba Kaihin Park, is another cherry blossom viewing spot where visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Many Someiyoshino cherry trees are planted in the school yard, and during the graduation and entrance season, the school building and playground are dyed a pale pink. Although the school buildings and grounds are not open to the public, visitors can enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom from the boat.

Also, on the way from Koyo Elementary School and Koyo Junior High School to Daiba Park, there are Kawazu cherry trees planted as part of the "Daiba No. 3 150th Anniversary Memorial Planting. Usually, they bloom beautifully from late February to early March, so if your timing is right, you can enjoy the beautiful Kawazu-zakura from the cruise ship.

Surrounded by an inlet facing Tokyo Bay, Odaiba Kaihin Park is a popular cherry blossom viewing spot for many people.

The park is crowded with people who enjoy activities such as beach yoga and windsurfing as well as a stroll course overlooking the ocean. In a specific area on the west side of the park, visitors can also experience outdoor activities such as sea fishing, ebb and flow fishing, and playing on the rocky shore, making it a great place to enjoy both flower viewing and ocean fun at the same time.

Along the sandy beach, some 200 cherry trees, including Someiyoshino, Oshima-zakura, and Sato-zakura, are in full bloom, and their beauty can be enjoyed from the boat. The view of the Statue of Liberty standing on the west side of the park, the Rainbow Bridge, the symbol of Odaiba, and the cherry blossoms in full bloom is so beautiful that you cannot help but admire it.
